Hand Wrist Surgery
The hand and wrist are made up of multiple bony joint structures as well as tendons and ligaments which allow us to bend and flex our fingers and wrist.
Common issues at the hand and wrist include trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, de Quervain’s tendinitis, Dupuytren’s contracture, ganglion cysts, fractures, as well as traumatic ligament and tendon disruption.
Depending on the diagnosis, surgery is used to either remove or repair structures located in the hand and wrist. If reconstruction is warranted, the patient is usually put in a splint or cast after surgery which is worn for 2-4 weeks. Initiation of physical therapy will depend on the type of procedure performed.
