Elbow surgery
The elbow contains multiple ligaments and bony structures to allow for motion. Trauma to this area may cause fracture and/or ligament disruption.
Overuse injuries including tendinitis, also occur in this area. You may know this better as, “tennis elbow.” Some of these injuries listed above, may require surgery at the elbow. Typically with elbow surgery, an open incision is used.
After surgery the patient is placed in a hard splint or cast which stays on for 2 weeks. Staples are used to close the incision which are removed after 2 weeks. Initiation of rehabilitation depends of the surgical procedure.
